The Conservation Program for Sustainable Development (Programa de Conservación para el Desarrollo Sostenible—Procodes), along with the monitoring activities established in the annual operating program of the Priority Conservation Region (Región Prioritaria para la Conservation—RPC) at the El Cielo Biosphere Reserve, complements monarch butterfly monitoring in the central region of the Sierra Madre Oriental.

Over the last two years, RPC personnel and local communities have provided important records on monarch passage, stopover and feeding sites. In addition, environmental education talks and workshops are held at schools and communities in the region, aimed at creating social awareness with respect to the care and conservation of the monarch butterfly migratory phenomenon.
