The Monarch Butterfly Conservation Education Project (Proyecto de Educación para la Conservación de la Mariposa Monarca) has been energetically carried out among key groups in Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas, states that the species cross on their southbound route. Launched in 2014 as an initiative of Ecosistémica, A.C.—an organization that promotes and conducts studies focusing on the knowledge, conservation, management and awareness of Mexico’s natural and cultural diversity—the project proposes to create awareness of the monarch’s importance and to foster the creation of pollinator gardens with native plants, as a way to conserve this and other species.
This effort is supported by environmental education, training and monitoring activities, and close collaboration with institutions that promote monarch conservation in Mexico.
